After a good night’s rest, we go into the school. The first girl we come across looks at Alessia and her long red locks and says, “I like your hair.” There are smiles to be seen everywhere. The kids are polite, curious, inquisitive and easy to connect with. We start the day with Trickster and these 51 students – it’s crazy!
In the meantime, I run about from class to class to talk to the kids about dreams. Their laughter comes naturally, making them a great audience. They pump up my energy and make we want to give them even more! Some of them come over to me and whisper their fondest wishes in my ear: “I want to be a teacher.” “My dream is to finish school.” I look them straight in the eye and tell them they can do it. They have to believe in their dreams. It won’t be easy. It will take time and patience, but it’s possible!
After that, I return to the Trickster group. Melaina and Jody, two Club employees, arrive a little later on, and our team is complete. We’re ready to keep going!
