Laverne & Shirley, Thelma & Louise, Venus & Serena… and, now, Julie & Julie! Our own fab female duo at the Breakfast Club head office is none other than Julie Charron and Julie Lambert. They both left jobs in downtown Montreal last year to embrace a new workplace in the heart of the suburbs, right here in Boucherville. The pair has been inseparable ever since. Even their workstations are located side by side, with only the thinnest of partitions between them.
How far does their partnership go, you ask? Well, they even scheduled their school volunteering gig at the same time! They did their first day with the breakfast crew at École Bourgeoys-Champagnat in Longueuil together and both came back ECSTATIC! They’ve since talked up the experience non-stop and have recommended it to everyone they know.
Julie C. gives us her take: “Words alone can’t describe what it’s like to work with Anne and Guylaine, the head volunteers at École Bourgeoys-Champagnat, and how contagious their enthusiasm is. Anne’s turned the commitment into a family affair, by bringing her mother, husband and daughter in, and takes the time to pay close, personal attention to each and every one of her ‘pets.’ ‘How are things at home?’ ‘Did your math test go all right yesterday?’ One stint with the breakfast program was enough to show me how much of inspiration these two women are, like real-life fairy godmother!” says Julie C.
“What an incredible experience, seeing everyone sharing, the volunteers hard at work, and the children so respectful and adorable. There are lots of wonderful stories here every single morning,” adds Julie L. “If a student comes in too late for a sit-down breakfast, Guylaine puts a lunch bag together for them and delivered it to their classroom. It drives home what’s really important and gives me the motivation to go out there and find additional sources of funding.”
The Club has been running a breakfast program at École Bourgeoys-Champagnat since March 1998. There are currently 111 children eating there on a daily basis.
