A new nutrition service to support children’s wellbeing

The launch of Breakfast Club of Canada’s nutrition service marks a major milestone. By combining nutritional knowledge, educational resources and on-the-ground support, the Club is making a lasting impact on school nutrition, while improving children’s health, eating habits and academic success.
We spoke to Catherine D’Amours, RD, Senior Nutrition Advisor, to find out more about the goals and benefits of this initiative.
Why did Breakfast Club of Canada create a nutrition service?
The nutrition service is fully in line with the Club’s mission: to give every child an equal start at school by promoting access to nutritious food.
Working with growing children, the Club takes on the crucial responsibility of providing them with building blocks to ensure their development. Although we already have a nutrition committee, the growth of our programs and our desire to maintain the quality of our services highlighted the need to create this new service.
What is the goal of the nutrition service?
Its goal is to enhance and strengthen our on-the-ground efforts. It includes the work of a nutrition committee supported by a dietitian dedicated to continuing to turn best practices in children’s nutrition into concrete action.
The team develops hands-on tools, webinars and training for schools, as well as nutritious recipes designed to inspire learning. With these resources, every breakfast becomes a nourishing and enriching moment. This contributes to nutritional education and the development of balanced, sustainable eating habits in children.
What sets this service apart from other school food initiatives?
What sets Breakfast Club of Canada apart is its ability to adapt to each school’s needs and provide direct, on-the-ground support. In addition to promoting nutritious food, the Club is active in preventive health, helping schools adopt balanced and sustainable practices in their breakfast programs. The goal is clear: to go beyond the simple choice of foods by providing support that has real educational and social impacts.
Lastly, the Club stands out through its efforts to align itself with the constantly evolving scientific literature on nutrition.
What benefits does this nutrition service offer children and schools?
Every initiative launched by the nutrition service helps create an educational and nourishing environment, where children learn how to fill their plate with nutritious and balanced food in a fun and engaging way.
This service also helps them develop healthy lifestyle habits from an early age, while promoting their well-being and ability to concentrate at school.
An eye to the future
Breakfast Club of Canada’s nutrition service is designed to evolve and innovate. In the coming years, the Club will continue to work to make learning about balanced eating both tangible and fun, while strengthening the educational and nutritional impact of breakfast programs across Canada.
