With every breakfast program comes the opportunity for students to step up and volunteer. There are many wonderful benefits and learning opportunities that come with getting involved in the breakfast program. Building self – esteem, leadership and food skills, teamwork and social skills, and the ability for students to give back to their school and peers.
Holly Dunnett is a grade 12 student at Bernice MacNaughton High School in Moncton, New Brunswick, and has been volunteering at the breakfast program since it started in September 2014. She shows up every morning at 7:45 to cook, set up and serve her peers and then she stays until the very end to help clean up. Holly is also involved in the planning and grocery shopping and helps lug all the food into the school and up the stairs to the breakfast program.
