It has been over a year since schools, breakfast programs and the entire educational system have had to adapt to new realities. Whether it be in-person, virtual learning, or a hybrid system for most, it is clear that it has been a challenging year for everyone.
In these circumstances, it was more important than ever to recognize all the hard work and dedication put into breakfast programs across the country. And such an occasion called for something special.
On June 9, 2021, students, teachers and volunteers came together to share a meal from a distance as part of the first ever pan-Canadian Breakfast in Unison event. It was a time of appreciation and recognition for everyone who supports their local schools and make a difference in the lives of thousands of children across the country.
Around twenty schools from coast-to-coast-to-coast participated in the event as well as 21 corporate and community partners. An important aspect to the success of Breakfast Club of Canada lies in the continued backing of loyal partners. Their respective breakfast events were a way to celebrate the benefits of their support as well as look ahead to some exciting initiatives for the future. Participating partners included La Cantine pour Tous, Alliance alimentaire Papineau, Nourrir Lanaudière, Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools Education Foundation, Food Sharing Project, Chez Cora, Maillon-Vert, Couche-Tard, Boiron, VitroPlus/Uniban, Bureau en Gros/Staples, Costco, Michelin, belairdirect, GWL Realtors, ARUP, GoodFood, Port of Prince Rupert, AFL Global, West Coast Seeds and Amazon.
The event not only created a wave of recognition across Canada, but also generated a sentiment of belonging to a movement which unites its voices to be heard. It was a moment to highlight the need for a National School Food Program in order to continue to promote children’s development and wellbeing.
