UBER REACHES OUT TO BREAKFAST CLUB OF CANADA: 80,000 FREE FOOD DELIVERIES TO BE MADE IN CANADA TO SUPPORT CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

Deliveries have been spread out over the provinces and major Canadian cities based on the respective proportion of people in food-insecure households, with the aim of making sure a maximum number of families will benefit from this gift.

“With hundreds of thousands of Canadian families experiencing food insecurity as a result of the health crisis, organizations like Breakfast Club of Canada need our help more now than ever before,” said Matthew Price, General Manager of Uber Canada. “Uber Canada welcomes the opportunity to partner with Breakfast Club of Canada and support the families in need.”

“Since schools were shuttered across Canada, we have continued to team up with our partners to ensure kids get enough to eat,” said Tommy Kulczyk, Managing Director of Breakfast Club of Canada. “Their needs are on the rise. We have to keep helping one another. The fact that a company like Uber is offering this delivery service and making sure food gets to families who need it is a wonderful act of kindness.”

Uber has pledged over $6M in free rides, meals, and food deliveries for healthcare workers, seniors, and people in need across Canada. To encourage safety and cleanliness throughout the delivery process, Uber drivers have passed a background check and have been given clear instructions from public health officials about cleaning and disinfection products.

Breakfast Club of Canada set up an emergency fund on March 20 to lend a helping hand to schools and organizations working on the ground, after breakfast programs were suspended in light of school closures. More than 1,000 funding applications have been received thus far from hundreds of organizations and schools from coast to coast. Donations to Breakfast Club of Canada can be made through their website.

BREAKFAST CLUB OF CANADA AND CANTINE POUR TOUS JOIN FORCES TO PROVIDE RELIEF TO FAMILIES LIVING WITH FOOD INSECURITY

Montreal, June 3, 2020 – Cantine pour tous and Breakfast Club of Canada are pleased to be working together to feed families in the Greater Montreal. With the situation in the area still a cause for worry, the Club will be reallocating $120,000 of the funding received from the Ville de Montréal to Cantine pour tous and its network so they can support 5,000 extra families every week through the distribution of meals and other food items.

Partners for the past two years, Cantine pour tous and Breakfast Club of Canada share the same goal of making sure children have access to healthy food. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, and in collaboration with dozens of partners and organizations, they have teamed up to leverage one another’s strengths and reach out to as many children and families as possible.

“Our member organizations are well established in their respective communities and closely attuned to their local realities and specific requirements,” said Thibaud Liné, Director of Cantine pour tous. “They are in the best position to identify and quickly address the needs of vulnerable groups in their community, which is particularly important and necessary in crisis situations like this one.”

“Since lockdown measures went into effect, the Club has been working hand in hand with stakeholders at all levels to do more for children,” said Marie-Claude Bienvenue, Vice-President, Government Affairs, Quebec, and Municipal Affairs at Breakfast Club of Canada. “To ensure that no child is food insecure, we are working to put concrete solutions in place with partners like Cantine pour tous to feed children wherever they are.”

“The Ville de Montréal is proud to support this joint effort of Breakfast Club of Canada and Cantine pour tous, which will help feed 5,000 families in our community,” said Mayor Valérie Plante. “For weeks, we have been working with the health network and our community partners to keep this public health crisis from becoming a humanitarian crisis. The Ville de Montréal is committed to being flexible and adjusting to changing circumstances to meet the needs of vulnerable populations. I applaud this initiative, which is aimed at delivering a tangible solution to the food insecurity faced by children and their families.”
